THE bank holiday weekend weather certainly was an improvement on what has gone before with much more pleasant temperatures and a fair bit of sunshine. Lochter Activity Centre and Fishery was buzzing with activity and it was great to see lots of young anglers being shown the ropes by dads and grandas and then successfully catching their tea on the all methods pools. These are the people who will keep the sport alive and must be encouraged.

Any lingering doubts about Formartine’s capacity to lift the championship must have been laid to rest as they took Clach apart 5-1 at North Lodge Park on Saturday.

Ospreys and Swallows at Lochter

WHAT a joy and what a relief. First the two ospreys reappeared at Lochter Fishery, Oldmeldrum and immediately set to rebuilding their nest which had taken quite a battering over the winter. Then on Sunday a single swallow was seen plying his lonely trade over the lochs but on Wednesday morning after a change of wind to the south, hundreds of swallows, house martins and sand martins arrived and were twisting and turning over the lochs snapping up the swarms of flies which were hatching in the mild conditions. Spring had at last properly arrived.
