Calling all club golfers!

Scotland’s club golfers are being invited to become national champions by taking part in the Belhaven Best Scottish Club Handicap Championship, with the final being staged at the prestigious Fairmont St Andrews.

The popular event involves around 24,000 golfers from 280 golf clubs setting off in pursuit of the title last year.

Now in its 13th year, the Belhaven Best Scottish Club Handicap Championship gives ordinary club golfers the rare chance of competing on the big stage, with the leading 40 club pairings qualifying for the Grand Final on the Torrance Course in front of the SGU TV cameras.

Part of the Scottish Golf Union’s portfolio of 15 national championships for golfers at all levels, the event is staged exclusively for members of Scotland’s 578 clubs and the cornerstone of Belhaven’s £250,000 three-year sponsorship of amateur golf.

Each club is invited to host a free-to-enter local qualifying event for its members, with the two players topping the leaderboard going on to represent their club at one of four regional finals taking place throughout the country this summer.

Duff House Royal will host the North Regional Final on Friday, August 31.

The format for qualifying is four-ball better ball with the leading 10 club pairings winning a sought-after place in the Fairmont St Andrews final, to compete to become Scotland’s ‘Best’.

To find out more information on how your club can stage a local qualifying event, contact the SGU Events Dept on 01334 466477 or visit www.scottishgolf.org/go/events. Closing date for entries is 28 June.
