Comprehensive defeat
Murrayfield Wanderers 48 Ellon 8
ELLON found the going tough in Edinburgh where they were comprehensively beaten 48 - 8 by promoted Murrayfield Wanderers, falling to cope with a big, but mobile pack.
“We were overwhelmed by a very good pack of forwards, though once we did get the ball in hands we were quite good, but the problem was not on the day, as we had not enough players at training in the build up to the game. In other words we got our just desserts,” said Bobby Kenny the acting coach in a display of toughness much required if the Meadows side are to adopt the ruthless touch to survive.
“If the players want to feel bad after every game, all they have to do is keep missing out on preparation for games.
“We only have one game to play before the end of the season. It would be good to see a full house at training this week. A trip to Langholm without a proper team work out would be a disaster,” warned Kenny.
After the trip to the Borders on Saturday the club will have a summer to reflect on where it is going and with what players.
A task which must be undertaken if the club is not to stagnate in the regional structure that awaits next season.
It promises to be an interesting close season for the club who must beat Langholm if they are to finish above the Border club.
“It’s a hard place to where you have to knock them out to get a draw,” said Kenny.
The previous week Ellon completed their home programme, losing out 35-9 to Musselburgh. Kenny said then he was encouraged by the performance, despite conceding four tries. He felt the side was making progress.
