THERE were quite a number of new fishing rods, reels, fancy jackets and smart stylish fishing hats on display at Lochter Fishery, Oldmeldrum during the past week, so it was clear that Santa had been very kind to his angling friends.
Whether a result of the new kit impressing the trout or the fact that the incredibly mild weather had kept the fish feeding will remain a mystery, but anglers who cast their flies upon the water were well rewarded for their efforts, with many fine fish in excellent condition coming to the net.
Top scorer was Tyler Hay who caught and released 14 fish with the best coming in at just over 4lbs . He was closely followed by Paul Sharp and D Mair who both released 13. Blobs, black lures and Buzzers were the successful flies .
Okay Dokeys fairly worked for G Addison who kept a couple for 7lbs and released nine. Good bags of eight each were recorded by Les Mess and R Taylor with Cormorants and a white Zuddler being the flies of choice. There were many bags of five and six recorded so plenty of happy anglers at the start of 2013.
The next bit of fun at Lochter will be the popular Robbie Burns Pairs scheduled for Sunday, January 27. Haggis, Neeps and Tatties will be served at lunchtime as is the tradition. Contact the fishery to enter on (01651) 872787 or 872000 or e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
