Lawrence Milne win against Kippie, but miss out on promotion to Division 2

Ellon Lawrence Milne Squash Team lost out on promotion to Division 2 by a narrow margin, even after winning there last game 14-8 to Kippie.

Alan Taylor set the ball rolling with a 3-2 win - mind you, he had to dig deep to get there as his opponent kept coming back at him. Nonetheless, Alans supreme fitness got him over the line to victory.

Next up was Gregor Milne who battled away with some great rallies, but to no avail - eventually losing 3-0 to his opponent.

Unprodictable Phil Thorpe was next. His opposite player had youth on his side, however Phil has many, many years of experience. Unfortunately, though, the youngster was too strong for Phil and he lost 3-0.

Frank Ballantine had to win his match in order for the team to have any chance of promotion, and after some fantastic boasts and tight rallies he managed to pull out a great win, with a score of 3-1.

As Neil Smith is Injured, it was up to Billy Gregor to play at the number 1 position and he bagged the win and the 5 bonus points, winning his game 3-0.

So the game was won by Ellon, but the team were left hoping that 2nd place team Peter Nichol Centre would slip up. However, the second placers didn’t, winning their game against Banchory which gave them the promotion.

All in all, it was a good season for Ellon, with the team finishing in 3rd position in the division, with some great matches played.

The club’s season is not quite over, however, as they have a Cup game away at Mannofield against Cloverleaf on Thursday.
