Ellon Bowling Club staged their annual one-day triples tournament on Sunday, with players coming from as far as Lanarkshire and Perthshire.
Spectators were entertained throughout the day with some fine bowling and some very close ties.
The final could not have been much closer, as it went to an extra end after the scores were peeled at 4-4 after 6 ends.
Ellon vice-president Les Milne teamed up with Stonehaven’s Ray Jenkin and former A&K county player Francis Tattersall to record a narrow 5-4 victory in the final against Bill Summers (Ellon), Grant Campbell (Ellon) and Mike Pressley (Tarves).
The competition winners also had a close semi-final, where they defeated the Tarves triple of Mike Gray, Murray Park and Bill Minty.
In the other semi, Grant Campbell’s triple had a fine victory against Jim Bell (Lanarkshire), Allan Giles (Ellon) and Graham Connel (Ellon).
Ellon Bowling Club have praised Burgess & Son Funeral Directors for their continued support and sponsorship of the triples competition.
In other bowls news, the North Section of The Andrew Hamilton Trophy has now been decided, with Angus topping the section and Highland also making the knock-out stages. Both sides lost their final league matches, with Aberdeen & Kincardine defeating Angus 121-102 at Monifieth and Buchan County recording a 123-97 victory against Highland at New Deer.
In the under 25 event, Grampian lost out to last year’s winners Lanarkshire in the semi-finals.
