Eight club records were broken on Saturday, (June 7), at the Elgin Mini Meet in Buckie Swimming Pool, as Garioch swimmers continued their amazing run of good form.
Anya Slessor (10) took four of Emily Jones’s 2006 records in the 50 breast, 50 free, 50 back and 50 fly races, winning the best overall 10 year old girl trophy for her four gold medals. Brother Conrad (8) broke four of his own club records in the 8 year old category winning the best 8 year old boy trophy for his four gold medals in the 50 breast, free, back and fly races.
Bill Whitcombe (10) was in great form, too, winning the best overall 10 year old boy trophy for his gold medals in the 50 breast, back and fly races and a silver in the 50 free.
There were other outstanding performances from Finley Cousins (11) who won gold in the 50 fly and 50 breast and a silver in the 50 free, and from Isla Johnston (11) who took an excellent silver in the 50 fly alongside bronze in the 50 back. Nicole Ogg (11) cemented her reputation as a very promising freestyle swimmer by taking bronze in the 50 free. The other swimmers all performed strongly for the team and mention must be made of Caitlin Dick (11), Neil Johnston (11) and Isla McIntosh (10) for some impressive PBs.
Thanks go to Tracy Ogg and to Mike Whitcombe for looking after the swimmers so ably at poolside, and to a significant number of parents who helped with officiating roles – some of whom were present even although they didn’t have children swimming at the meet.
