Ellon maintained their winning run with another bonus point victory, this time with a 38-17 win over local rivals Garioch.
The Meadows side have now taken maximum points for their opening five fixtures this season and sit top of the BT Caledonia Division 2 North table.
Speaking after the win, Ellon 1st XV Assistant Coach Scott Munro said: “The players are currently enjoying their rugby, which can be seen on how they are playing and more importantly the way they are applying themselves at training.
“Another pleasing aspect to Saturdays squad is that 19 of the 20 players are all home grown and came through our thriving Junior and Youth section.
“Garioch were well organised with a large pack, which we found difficult to break down.
“When we moved the ball quickly from the breakdown it helped us to get in behind Garioch’s defence.
“Defensively when we tackled low, Garioch found it difficult to gain any ground, when we tackled high we made it easy for them to gain ground, so this is what we will be looking at training this week.”
Next up for Ellon is a trip to Invergordon where they will face Ross Sutherland.
The highlanders have had a mixed start to their season, winning two and losing two of their four games, most recently losing 42-19 away to Mackie Academy FPs.
Munro added: “Ross Sutherland away from home will always be a tough fixture and they will be difficult to break down, but if we keep our discipline, have a strong set-piece and retain the ball when we have it, should keep us in good stead.”
