While the weather was at its best over the weekend both Ellon Gordon and Methlick experienced storms to send relegation shivers through both camps.
Ellon had the daunting task of facing league leaders Bon Accord at the Gordon Park, but gave a good account of themselves, ensuring the Grade 1 title favourites had to fight all the way for its four wicket win.
Reduced to 167 all out Ellon captured six Bon Accord wickets as the Aberdeen side battled to victory, boosted by 99 runs from run machine Awan.
Indeed had it not been for Awan a shock was on the cards.
The star of the home innings was a superb knock of 77 from Brian Veldsman, while pick of the Ellon bowlers was Ross Wade who claimed three for 41.
The reverse need, however, need not depress the home faithful, serving to be a day on which Scott White’s men can build.
Methlick’s 115 run defeat away to 2nd Ronald was more concerning, having been set the enormous task of chasing 260 to win, fell were short on 144 all out.
The Lairds side are now firmly back in the relegation mix, but have a great opportunity on Saturday when they meet bottom side Stonehaven Thistle.
Failure to win would really set alarm bells off at the MCC.
