ELLON Primary School’s netball team have a double reason for celebrating. They have landed new kit sponsorship from a firm of solicitors, and won the the Ellon gala netball tournament against strong opposition.
Following the launch of their “Advocating Youth Development” initiative, Raeburn Christie Clark & Wallace received an overwhelming response from local youth sporting teams and clubs for the offer of £300 kit sponsorship.
Ellon Primary’s netball team were the lucky winners in the town and recently took delivery of their new kit - to the joy of team members and officials.
Graham Robertson, branch partner in Ellon, said: “We were delighted with the response we received for our initiative, which then gave us the unenviable task of selecting just one club in each of our branch areas.
“In the current economic climate, youth sporting teams are finding it increasingly difficult to obtain sponsorship and we are delighted to be able to help Ellon Primary School netball team, who up until now have had limited kit available to them.
The club has many recent wins under their belt and we hope to see them continue with this success”.
Mr Robertson added: “It was a difficult decision to choose just one team to receive the sponsorship.
“Therefore, in addition to providing Ellon Primary with £300 worth of new kit, we have also agreed to support Tarves Primary School to fund new netball shirts for their P6/7 girls.
“This initiative has highlighted to us the problems many youth teams are experiencing and all of them desperate for funding.
“With that in mind, we plan to run this initiative again later this year, to afford this opportunity to other teams in our local areas”.
The new kit has given the young Ellon team a huge boost.
Sheena Blakey, coach of Ellon Primary netball team, said: “Our girls are all delighted with their new team tops and skirts and are so grateful to Raeburn Christie Clark & Wallace for this much-needed support.
“The new kit gives the girls a great sense of pride in their club and makes them feel much more like a team.”
She added: “In fact our Primary 5 team were competing last weekend in the Ellon Gala Netball Tournament where we were up against six other teams.
“We were so very proud of our P5 girls as they walked away with the first place shield, which is a fitting result for our first competition in our new kit”.
