The first trophy of the season at Ellon Bowling Club was won by Martin Emslie, Bill Christe snr and Allan Giles (skip) who won the club triples on Friday night, writes Phil Anderson.

They defeated Calum Campbell, Albert Low and Ann Singer (skip) 12-11 in a closely contested match.

Giles team made a good start and raced to a 5-1 lead. The tide turned though and with two ends to go they were down 11-8.

Two shots on the second last end reduced Singer’s lead to one shot going into the last end.

As Allan Giles went down to play his last bowl of the match game was against him. He played a great shot to then hold two shots and when Ann couldn’t reduce the count with her last bowl it meant victory for Giles team.

Meanwhile, there was disappointment for the North sides at the weekend in the Scottish Inter County Top 10.

Ellon were drawn away to holders Bonnyrigg and the trip to Midlothian proved to be a tough one as Ellon went down 8-0.

Aberdeen & Kincardine Bowling Association representatives Tarves had a long journey to face Campbeltown-Stronvaar (Argyll & Bute).

Tarves put up a strong performance winning in the triples and fours. With the score tied at 4-4 it was Campbeltown-Stronvaar who went through winning overall by nine shots.

Bon Accord top 10 champions Westhill went down 6-2 against West Barnes (East Lothian).
