Garioch Judo sent ten of their members off to the Scottish Open Championships last weekend and had four medals to show for their effort.

With judo players from Germany, Belgium, Sweden and the rest of the UK, Stuart McWatt came out with Gold in both Seniors and Juniors event while fellow club members Helen Forbes and Olivia Reid claimed silver medals in the Junior Competition.

Olivia’s sister Shannon, also took a fifth place in her event while there were good performances from James Littler, Morgan MacDonald , Ross Mark, Nordine Adrif, Lewis Mark and Murray Wood.

Coach Stuart McWatt (senior) said, “The team did very well and there were some great performances but we know we still have lots of room for improvement and that’s how we like it.”

It was welcome break for young Stuart McWatt who is now at the GB Judo Centre of Excellence and he commented, “It was good to win both events with strong competition from home and abroad. My full time training at Walsall has been great so far - its very hard but focussed and I’m enjoying the experience. Its good however to be home for a few days after competing in Edinburgh and I’m helping my Dad out with Garioch Judo and then I will be off to Edinburgh later in the week before returning to Walsall.”
