Garioch Gymnastics Club held their first ever Invitational competition on Saturday (December 13).

The Garioch Glitterball took place at the Garioch Community Centre in Inverurie and involved the Club’s own Glitter Girls as well as gymnasts from Banchory, Forres, Tyock (based in Elgin) and Fyrish (Alness).

As well as the gymnastics, there were lots of fun activities to do: Glitter Nails, Glitter Tattoos and Silly Selfie Photo Booth. Also lots of Stalls for that last minute Christmas Shopping including: Sweet Boutique, Fiona Davidson Medal Holders, Oakia Design, Candles, Country Flavours of Alford, Bella’s Clips & Bows and Coco Creations.

Over 100 children took part in the competition, performing extremely well and working hard to be crowned Queens and Princesses of the Glitterball. Overall winners went home with beautiful twinkly tiaras as well as medals. The format followed a normal Floor and Vault competition format but with the added element of an Advanced section which involved the girls getting the opportunity to perform more difficult vaults and some more technical tumbling. This added element to a Floor and Vault competition was very well received and as far as the Club know is the first of its kind in Britain.

Garioch Gymnastics Club want to say a massive thank you to the visiting clubs for coming along. From the feedback they have received they absolutely loved the competition and can’t wait to do it all again next year. A huge amount of effort went into planning and running the competition from the Club’s Volunteer Parent Committee and are extremely grateful to them and their team of volunteers, including some of the Elite & Performance gymnasts who were not competing. The day was a huge success thanks to them and the coaches, who as usual, always put in that extra bit of effort to ensure the gymnasts can be the best they can be. The Club would also like to thank Deeside Physiotherapy for sponsoring the Invitational Team Champions Salver which is awarded to the visiting club who has the highest total from each section – Beginner, Intermediate & Advanced. This was won by Banchory Gymnastics Club this year.
