The eagerly-anticipated meeting between Methlick and Ellon Gordon on Saturday ended in a tame draw.

Local cricket rivals Methlick and Ellon Gordons’ fight for the bragging rights in the area ended in a tame draw, though the Lairds side will feel the happier of the two after claiming 18 points when failing to chase down 242 to win.

Ellon Gordon had batted first, amassing 241 for seven wickets and then curtailing the home reply to 149 for the loss of seven wickets from the 44 overs left to them, claiming 20 valuable points in the process.

The Ellon heroes were A Arora and captain Scott White who both turned in impressive all-round performances with half centuries and three wickets apiece at the idyllic setting at the home of the MCC.

Arora scored a patient 64, while his skipper was a little more belligerent in compiling his unbeaten 58.

Stuart Kennedy was the pick of the home attack, claiming five wickets for 75.

Set 242 to win Methlick were never up with the rate against some accurate bowling from the visitors who were best served by Arora, who grabbed three for 31 and White who claimed his three for 32 runs.

Scott Murphy top scored with 51 while Mark Woodhouse displayed just how important he is to the MCC, scoring a solid 38 for the homesters.

The draw leaves Methlick just above the drop zone in Grade 1, though St Ronald improved their position with a hard-fought draw against Aberdeen Grammar, while Inverurie were dismissed for 98 when chasing Stonehaven’s 147 for seven.

At the top of the division Bon Accord cruised to a nine wicket win against 2nd St Ronald thanks to an unbeaten knock of 146.

Mannofield kept their title hopes alive with a 87 win against Cults, whose own slim hopes disappeared after being bowled out for 75 when chasing 162.
