AN UDNY teenager has been selected for the Scottish Under 18 hockey training squad.

It marks a great achievement for Katie Hibbert, 16, who is an S5 pupil at Robert Gordon’s College in Aberdeen.

She is in her first year playing hockey in the under 18 age group - making her one of the youngest in the squad.

Katie said: “Being part of the training squad means that we all train together in preparation for match selection.

“I was pleased to be selected to travel to England and play in the four nations tournament.

“We played Holland, Germany and England and made it through to the bronze medal match on the last day, where we won 1-0 against England.”

The following week Katie and the Scotland team saw further success as they won two matches against Wales in Stirling.

Talking about the future, the teenager said: “We are now preparing for Europeans which will be held in Spain at the start of July.

“This is a big tournament for us which we hope will see us being promoted from European Division ‘B’ to Division ‘A’.”

Katie will soon hear if she is one of the 18 being selected for the squad.

If chosen, the Udny girl will go to Prague in June for some matches but will also have to train up to three times a week in Edinburgh or Glasgow.
