THE annual angling contest between Inverurie and Kintore was played out to the last minute at Lochter on Sunday.

When the final whistle sounded and the fish were brought to the scales for weighing in it was too close to call.

After careful scrutiny judge Bert Webster was able to announce that the score was twenty two to twenty one in Inverurie`s favour.

This made fishing very testing and big bright coloured flies which the trout could see were the most effective. It has been the situation all week but at the time of writing the water has now cleared and smaller nymphs will once more be effective.

Earlier in the week, when conditions were difficult, K Donovan used a green fritz to bring seven to the net and John Parsons a black and green tadpole to account for ten, two of which he kept.

S Coutts had eight on a fritz tadpole, Phil Wood seven using a nomad and a black fritz and Bill Reid seven on a cormorant and a bloodworm.
