THE Scottish Section of the Society of One-Armed Golfers have announced that they will be holding their 2011 Scottish Golf Championship at McDonald Golf Club, Ellon between September 16-18.

The group have praised local businesses sponsoring the event, including Winchesters Solicitors and EFF Offshore Solutions, as well as backing from the Ellon Round Table. The Society was founded in Scotland in 1932 to promote participation in golf by those who have the use of only one arm, whether as a result of an accident, medical condition or other causes.

A spokesman for the group said: “McDonald Ellon is the home club of one of our members Bill Boyes, who will be trying to defend the title he won at Dunfermline GC last year. We are very grateful for the tremendous welcome, help and support we’ve received from McDonald Golf Club, Captain David Heap and his committee, as well as the members.”

The event commences on Friday with a practice round, with the Championship competition on Saturday morning, followed by a Greensomes competition in the afternoon. The event closes on Sunday with a social match with a team representing the Society and event Sponsors playing members.
