Orange and black work well at Lochter

THE flags flying at Murrayfield on Sunday may have been green and blue as Scotland put one over on the Irish, but at Lochter Fishery, Oldmeldrum, the winning colours during the week were definitely black and orange.

Top of the orange men was M Rafferty who was down from the Black Isle and found that orange Fritz flies were irresistible to the trout, 13 of which he landed and returned and kept a further three. Orange Blobs worked for M Cowan who caught and released ten, while Sean Hall kept one at 4lbs and returned seven all on an orange Muddler.

Les Mess tempted a dozen with his black Beetles, a black WSW worked for W Preston Jnr who kept three and returned four, A Brain had six on a black Damsel and Denny Mackay from Inverness six on black Buzzers.

In fairness, there was some success for other colours. K Gordon also from the Black Isle used a “green thing” to account for ten, Ian McCafferty had five on yellow Dancers, Steve Coutts ten on Cats Whiskers and Jim Buchan, seven on the same fly.
