Ellon senior rugby club may be having a torrid time in Caledonian Division 1 but the club’s under-age sides have made encouraging starts to their respective campaigns.
Vice-president Gareth Kemp has praised their progress.
He said: “The Under 16 team has an unbeaten record, underlining its progress last weekend with a 79 - 5 win against Garioch, while our S2’s also best a Garioch side 14 - 8.
“Encouragingly our Under 18’s had a draw against a very strong Deeside team, and were unlucky not to win, but a 24 - 24 draw gives a good indication that they are finding their feet in the new league set up.”
He also found time to praise the club’s second strings who gave of their all in a 45-25 reverse at home to Deeside.
The official added: “They were in contention right until near the end, but conceded three late tries in an otherwise good performance.
“All we need now is our first XV to start performing. I have no doubt Duaine Lindsay our new head coach will turn it round eventually, but it won’t happen overnight.”
The club hosts the President’s Day on Saturday. Participants can not only enjoy food and refreshments, but can take in the home Caley Division game against Caithness which kicks off at 3pm.
