Garioch Amateur Swimming Club’s Shannon Crawford came of age during the 2015 Scottish National Age Group Championships at Aberdeen Aquatic Centre, becoming 200 backstroke National Champion in the 16 year old category and also taking silver in the 100 back.

It was just reward for a hard season’s work, with excellent times adding to her podium finishes.

There were medals, too, for Orla Adams who took silver in the girls 17 and over 200IM and 400IM events and an excellent bronze in the 50 breaststroke.

Finley Cousins won an incredible bronze in the boys’ 12 year old 50 breaststroke event, smashing his PB in amazing style.

Gavin Haggerwood won bronze in the 17 and over 200 IM, a feat matched by Alistair Miley in the 400IM.

Hannah Miley won a clutch of medals, taking gold in the 17 and over category for 400IM, 200IM, 200 free, 400 free and 200 back, and bronze in the 100 free.

Brother Joseph Miley won bronze in the boys’ 17 and over 800 free.

Eleven year-old Anya Slessor did very well against older opposition, taking bronze in the all three of the girls’ 11-12 fly events.

Other swimmers did well to make finals in their age groups: well done to Caitlin Dick (200 back), Austeja Ernuite (400IM), Christy Johnston (100 breast, 200 breast), Daniel McKenzie (50 fly, 100 fly, 50 back) and Daniel McNally (50 back, 50 free) for being in the top 10 in their respective age categories.

Congratulations are also due to Max Hitchcox, Findlay Douglas, Heather McIntosh, Conner Morrison, Nicholas Nightingale, Nicole Ogg for securing times in a range of individual events thus enabling them to participate at National Level in the season’s top competition.

They all acquitted themselves well. Cameron Crawford, Fraser Johnston, Isla Johnston and Gemma Ogg all performed well, too, in relay events, getting valuable experience of swimming against high quality opposition.

Thanks to coaches Eavan Adams, Patrick Miley, Gitte Whitehead and Mandi Crawford for their poolside support throughout an exhausting five days of competition and to a small band of parents for helping in official roles, especially Sue Haggerwood and Pat McKenzie.
