Spring in the air at Lochter

Driving to Lochter Fishery, Oldmeldrum earlier this week, the car was showing an outside air temperature of 8.5 degrees which is positively balmy compared with what we have been experiencing recently.

This is good news for the Buzzer fishers because a slight increase in the water temperature will result in fly hatches and this will in turn bring the lochs to life.

This has already been in evidence at the weekend when Brian Ross and Rod Palmer had 14 between them, all caught on black Buzzers.

Earlier in the week Allan Logan netted seven, including four around the 3.5 to 4lb mark, using small Nymphs and Peter Young accumulated a bag of 17 by using lures in the morning, switching to Buzzers in the middle of the day when things warmed up, then going back to lures when the afternoon cooled down.

Other flies have had their moments as well and Ron Mead used Cormorants and Bloodworms to account for nine and S Sim had a good session with six on an Okey-Dokey.

Prospects look good with the forecast for mild weather all this week, Spring is just around the corner.
