Recognition for Ellon Rugby Club

ELLON Rugby Club’s acclaimed junior was recognised last Saturday when Scotland’s number one choice scrum - half Chris Cusiter conducted a training session with 80 youngsters from the club.

The Meadows session held in the pouring rain did not deter the enthusiastic squad of under age players who relished the tips passed on by Cusiter, who has been capped 59 times by his country, and is scheduled to play in Scotland’s match against Ireland in Dublin on Saturday.

The visit was greatly appreciated by club president Colin Tennant who said:”It’s a great tribute to the many coaches at the club who have put us on the map in Under age rugby. Having Chris here was brilliant. He was just great with the youngsters and is a wonderful ambassador for the game.”

Cusiter was equally appreciative of the welcome he had received at the 35 year old club, and said: ”Ellon is acknowledged as one of the leading lights in the promotion of junior rugby in Scotland. It’s good to be here.”

The 29 year old Gordonian signed autographs for group while passing on his expertise and experience, gained with pro clubs Borders and Glasgow Warriors, the Lions and of course the national team who he has captained on a number of games in his eight years on the international scene.

“The visit will surely help promote rugby in the area. Who knows we might get another cap from the club,” said Tennant.
