Ellon United picked themselves up from their defeat by Culter in their visit to Sunnybank last Thursday evening, and should have returned with more than one point from a 1-1 draw as the visitors created plenty of opportunities. United should have gone ahead in the opening minute, but had to wait until the 17th minute when Matty Edmond and Ross Forsyth linked up to present Martin Foy with a simple finish. With Niall Corser dominating the midfield and the United defence looking solid with the return of Scott Clark, the visitors should have increased their half-time advantage and were made to pay the price midway through the second half, when they were caught on the counter-attack with Steven Bartlet sweeping home the equaliser. Both keepers were brought into action to prevent a winner, as the sides had to settle for a point each.

With United having no game at the weekend following Longside’s 3-1 win at Maud on Saturday, United sit one point ahead of their rivals after Saturday’s matches in the battle to avoid relegation, with United having two games in hand over Longside, who have two games still to play. A lot will be in stake for United in their match against maud on May 3 at the Meadows.
