A major exhibition by a prominent local artist has opened at Tolquhon Gallery, near Tarves.

Catriona Miller, from Udny, is recognised as one of Scotland’s foremost painters and has exhibited at the gallery since her student days, although this is her first solo event there.

The artist has been in huge demand since work at her 2005 degree show at Gray’s School of Art sold out within two hours.

The exhibition, which will run until May, features more than 30 paintings and has attracted interest from across the UK.

Children at Rothienorman, Pitmedden, Daviot, Old Rayne and Udny Green primary schools have already produced their own paintings inspired by her work. A group will be visiting the exhibition and Catriona will discuss her work with them.

Gallery owner, Danny Ross, said: “It is always exciting to unwrap Catriona Millar’s work. Her paintings show such joie de vivre.”

The exhibition opened on Sunday and continues until Tuesday, May 15. It is open every day except Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 11am to 5 pm and 2pm to 5 pm on Sundays.

Full details of the exhibition with images of the work on show can be seen on the gallery website http://www.tolquhon-gallery.co.uk./
