Stars of this year’s Christmas Panto in Aberdeen dropped past to visit shoppers this week.

Beauty and the Beast arrives in His Majesty’s Theatre from November 29 until January 4.

Panto favourite Elaine C Smith surprised locals in the Bon Accord Shooping Centre on Monday as she got into character for her role as housekeeper Mrs Potty.

Also taking to the stage will be Alan McHugh set to play the part of Dame Kitty Brewster and Jordan Young will be up to no good as he appears as Boabby Brewster.

Qdos Entertainment’s managing director and executive producer of Beauty and the Beast Michael Harrison said: “We are thrilled that the stellar cast of this year’s panto, Elaine C Smith, Alan McHugh and Jordan Young are once again returning to entertain the crowds in Aberdeen this Christmas.

“This dazzling new production is packed with amazing effects and is proving to be the hottest ticket in the North-east.”

It is thought that the production is on target to be the city theatre’s 7th record-breaking panto.

Last year’s show - Cinderella - was the second to break the £1 million milestone in ticket sales before the opening night performance - the first was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs in 2012.

APA chief executive Jane Spiers added: “I know Aberdeen audiences regard Elaine with affection and awe; she, Alan and Jordan are first class entertainers and an unstoppable panto force creating unforgettable magic on our stage.

“We’ve had six years of record panto ticket sales and with over 37,300 tickets already booked for this year it looks as if this run will continue.

“Like a lot of other people, I can’t wait for opening night and for the curtain to rise on one of the must-see Christmas treats in the North-east.”

Beauty and the Beast runs at His Majesty’s Theatre from Saturday, November 29 to Sunday, January 4.
