Inverurie opticians’ recruitment drive for optical assistants
An Inverurie opticians has openings for two new optical assistants to join the team, offering candidates in the community the chance to embark on a career in the industry.
Specsavers is currently recruiting for the positions. Previous experience in a similar role is welcomed but not a necessity as the store will offer full training to the successful candidates.
Store director, Ashleigh Wood, said: “We are looking for a couple of optical assistants to join our fantastic team.
“This is a great opportunity to pursue a career in the optical industry with one of the UK’s biggest opticians. There is no set salary as it is dependent on experience.’”
The successful candidates could have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of store director, Jill McArthur, who started out as the receptionist in Specsavers Aberdeen more than 20 years ago and now owns three stores in the area.
She said: “I started out as a receptionist and within a year was promoted to assistant manager. Once I reached this level, I had a chat with my director to find out how I could look to progress my career further and they suggested I complete Pathway, Specsavers’ internal development programme to become a partner.”
As Jill underwent her training, the opportunity to open a new Specsavers store in Inverurie arose. She opened the store in 2003 with her co-director Michael Higgins.
To help meet the demand, Jill and Michael, opened a second store in 2012 located in Westhill. The duo added a third store to their portfolio in 2019 in Ellon.
Jill has also been instrumental in the creation of ‘Tom’s Week’, a week of fundraising for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation across all Scottish stores in memory of Tom Simpson, who sadly passed away a few years ago. Tom was director of Specsavers in Aberdeen and had been one of the partners at the helm of the store when Jill first started as a receptionist.
Jill adds: “ Tom was a really dear friend of mine and I’m glad we’ve had the opportunity to honour his memory by supporting a very worthy charity which conducts vital lung cancer research.”
