The Barn opened on Saturday, January 20, and is situated in the former premises of The Store following its closure in November last year.

The Barn is owned by husband and wife team Mark and Christine Graham, and is the couple’s second business venture as they also run the Smuggler’s Cone ice cream parlour in Collieston.

The couple decided to take on this new challenge after the announcement of The Store’s closure.

After speaking to Andrew Booth of The Store, the couple told him of their plans for the site and now the new business is up and running.

Speaking to the Times Christine said: “As Smuggler’s Cone is just a small seasonal business it gave us a taste for something else and when we saw this opporunity come up we contacted Andrew as soon as we could.

“We told him our vision and Andrew has been so supportive and has believed in us and our ideas.”

The Store has been tranformed into The Barn, a coffee shop selling freshly made home bakes and meals, and also incorporates Beauty in the Barn, where visitors can be treated to various beauty treatments including spray tans, lash tints, facials and waxing.

The tasty treats are made every morning by their head chef, who previously worked at Formartine’s and Prime Cuts in Aberdeen.

Despite opening just over a week ago, Christine is delighted with the response from both locals and customers.

She explained: “The response so far has been phenomenal, it’s quite overwhelming.

“We’ve had lots of people from the village come in to see us and they tell us that they are glad to see something new here, especially in this difficult climate it’s good to see something new and someone trying their best.

“The reviews that we’ve had on Facebook have been excellent and we’re chuffed with that.

“It was sad and the end of an era when The Store closed but at the same time it’s exciting for us.

“I’m pinching myself as doing something like this had been a dream of mine for a long time so to be here now is overwhelming.”

Christine revealed that they are about to launch Afternoon Teas and Beauty in the Barn has already taken its first wedding party booking, something that she hopes will pick up and continue in the future.
