These are the young artists from Ellon Academy who have been working hard to qualify as finalists to have their work on show.

These young artists are all in the third year of Broad General Education at Ellon Academy and this work represents part of the range of activities pupils explore in Year 3.

The young artists are Ethaniel Allen, Nadia Bailey, Erin Benison, Dylan Carle, Lucy Connor, Sophie Coxon, Sarah Donald, Caitlin Jack, Jennifer Leiper, Fiona Luk, Mhari McKeown, Hanna Rastall, Rachel Reid, Maria Shepherd, Megan Thom and Holly Webster and they are the chosen finalists for their own Exhibition competing for certificate awards and a trophy of Best in Show.

Their work was judged last week by three judges - Kevin McWilliam from EDAG, Margaret Nicholson from Ellon Academy’s Creative Arts Faculty and the artist Mary Shaw.

The judges were most impressed by the art work on show, finding it not easy to choose a final three and then the ultimate winner.

The results will be kept secret and announced at around 3.30pm in the Upper Room, Kirk Centre, Ellon, this Saturday (May 27) at the EDAG Exhibition.

The judges wished to congratulate all the finalists on their work and felt the standards were high.

All finalists will be awarded certificates with the Best in Show receiving a trophy engraved with their name on as Winner.

These certificate awards of “Commended” and “Highly Commended”, also kept secret, will again be announced and presented at around 3.30pm on Saturday, May 27.

Immediately after this Awards Ceremony the Silent Auction will close and the highest bidders can then claim the painting they successfully bid for.

The draw will then be made for the Grand Raffle where the Star Prize is an original painting of Johnston Gardens, entitled “ Rhodies, Johnston Gardens” by EDAG Artist Valerie Hudson.

Numerous other raffle prizes will be made so make sure you get your raffle tickets when you view the exhibition.

Tickets will be on sale throughout the exhibition which runs from 8am-8pm on Friday 26 and 8am-4pm on Saturday 27th, when the public will be able to view the exhibition of members’ Arts and Craft work and the S3 Pupils’ Art work.

Almost all Members work will be on sale with original paintings including those of local scenes and prints, crafts, jewellery, knitting, woodcraft and greeting cards.

Everyone is welcome and entry is free.

EDAG meets on Thursdays 10.30am - 1.30pm, in the Upper Room, Kirk Centre, Station Road, Ellon and anyone wishing to join should in the first instance contact the Secretary, Jane Bartlam on 01771 644763.
