Ellon Academy has been named as a finalist in two categories of this year’s Scottish Education Awards.

The school is in the running for the Creative Learning Award and the Enterprise and Employability Across Learning (Secondary) Award. Ellon Academy is one of just three schools in the north east to be in the running for an accolade.

Teachers at Ellon Academy aim to provide a “dynamic, inspiring and creative environment” for all pupils and offer a range of opportunities for them to learn about creative industries such as photography, media and performing arts.

Pupils are offered the chance to get involved in dance and drama groups, as well as annual talent contests and musical shows.

The school also provides opportunities for pupils to develop their enterprise, entrepreneurship and employability skills, by offering work placements and projects which involve working with local businesses.

Chair of the Aberdeenshire Council’s Education, Learning & Leisure Committee, Cllr Alison Evison, said: “Pupils at the school have lots of ways to get involved in the creative arts.

“Their annual talent contests and musical shows are really popular and this is just another chance for them to shine.”

Ellon Academy will find out if they have been successful when the winners are announced at an awards ceremony in Glasgow on Wednesday, June 8.

The Scottish Education Awards recognise and reward the people who dedicate their lives to children and young people and showcase the valuable work and innovation happening in classrooms across the country.
