Wednesday, 23rd May 2018, 10:00 am
Cast members Ian Collins Humes (Peter), Rachel Birse (Mother), Romi Campbell (Bobbie), Dara Pettigrew (Father) and Alex McDermott (Phyllis)

Performances will run on Tuesday 12, Wednesday 13, Thursday 14 and Friday 15 June at 7.30pm in the Ellon Academy Community Campus Theatre.

Rehearsals have been progressing well and the cast are getting very excited about presenting this musical.

There is a lot of hard work involved in preparing this full version of the show, but the club members are having a great time and aim to create another outstanding production.

This production follows on from the success of the club’s previous musicals, “The Sound of Music” (2014), “Annie” (2015), “The Music Man” (2016) and last year’s “Annie Get Your Gun” (2017).

The storyline, as adapted from the book by E. Nesbit, the lyrics of Julian Woolford and music by Richard John, is set in Edwardian London and Yorkshire.

An ideal Edwardian family Christmas is interrupted by a knock at the door and a family’s life is changed forever. What happens to their Father? How will the Mother and her three children survive in their new home? What adventures await the children?

The show has a beautiful, haunting musical score which in turn is upbeat, thoughtful, romantic and dramatic.

This musical represents a change of focus for the Ellon Academy Drama Club.

Over the last few years, it has focused on the American musicals of Broadway. But in this musical, new challenges are presented for the cast.

One cast member said: “This is a great storyline but it also allows the cast to express their individuality and character.”

Additionally, club members have been finding about life in Britain in 1905, including the impact that the railway and trains had on the everyday lives of the nation.

The Maud Railway Museum has been an enormous help in advising the club on authentic railway goods and also allowed it to borrow some items for use in the show.

Tickets for the show are priced at £9 for adults and £6 for concessions/children and they are on sale from the reception at Ellon Academy and J&K Shoes, Ellon.
