Two enterprising Ellon Academy pupils have organised a live music event next Saturday, August 31 to help fund a teaching trip to Thailand.
Cat Caddell and Toby Maddams, both S6, have volunteered to teach English to Thai young people at a number of teaching camps throughout the country next year.
The event in the Station Hotel, Ellon, will help them to raise money to reach their funding target for the trip.
It will showcase local musical talent and several young people and groups have already agreed to perform. Tickets will cost £5, there will be a licensed bar and also a ‘Bottles and Chocs’ raffle on the night.
Cat said: “We are so lucky in Scotland to have access to education and we probably take it for granted and assume that everyone has the same opportunities we have but in many other countries, this definitely isn’t the case.
“For disadvantaged Thai kids, learning English will help then to have better employment opportunities so we felt it was something we would really like to do”.
Toby added: “We already have several people and groups signed up to perform but we would like more and obviously we also need people to come along to on the night.
“There is so much young talent in the area which is seen through the performances and musicals staged by Ellon Academy throughout the year and a previous musical talent showcase several months ago for one of our friend’s charity fundraising efforts went down really well so we thought that this would be something that people would enjoy coming along to.”
To sign up to perform, please contact either Cat on 07450 371 444 or Toby on 07799 375 221. Tickets will be available at the door on the night.
