TARVES and District residents are being invited to a new event aimed at boosting the health and wellbeing of people in the area.
‘Fit Like Tarves’, to be held on May 14, will showcase the local activities, groups and sports facilities available in the area with the aim of encouraging residents to take a more active part in the life of their community, benefiting their mental and physical health.
Community Planning Officer Mark Mitchell told the Times: “The idea came from local health staff concerned about the increasing number of people in Aberdeenshire living with long term conditions. The event is to encourage and support people to recognise and learn about how they can promote their health and wellbeing and lead a longer healthier life.
“Eating well, being active, having someone to speak to and being involved in some aspect of community life are essential for long term health and wellbeing.”
The main hub of the event will be the Melvin Hall where stands, demonstrations, tasting sessions, Reflexology, Bodywise Pilates, Under 5’s first aid, health checks and local walks will all take place. The local primary school will be offering Enjoy a Ball sessions for the under 12’s, Zumba for parents and smoothies. Hanover Court will be showcasing a timeline over the years on how the sheltered housing complex has developed, with teas and coffees served. Tarves Bowling Club offer opportunities for people to try out bowling, while the church will also open its doors with displays on the Church Guild and the Sunday school group. There will be a local walk around the village highlighting points of interest, as well as a quiz with prizes to be won! The whole event lasts from 10am-2pm, all are welcome to attend any of the venues mentioned. A full display of What’s On around the village will be available in the Melvin Hall for visitors.
