1st Ellon Boys Brigade host Open Night

The 1st Ellon Boys Brigade company held their presentation night recently.

The event was held on Thursday, May 26 at Ellon Parish Church.

The evening’s special guest and inspecting officer was Steve Cross who was a former member of the Ellon Boys Brigade.

During the event the boys were awarded their badges which they had worked hard to attain over the year.

Trophies were also awared to individuals for best senior, best junior, most effort from a senior, best junior and senior sportsman and also an award for the the boy who showed the best leadership.

Two presidents badges were also awarded on the night, one was presented to Ciaran Lackie and the other to Cameron Munro.

The president badges are the second highest award in the Boys Brigade.

The highest accolade, the Queens badge, was awarded to Andrew McCallum.

Boys take two years to gain the Queens badge and must carry out the following to receive it: They must hold the presidents badge, attend a candidates meeting, participate in skills based training, take responsibility in the Boys Brigade or church, carry out voluntary service in the community, develop interests, participate in a residential course and complete and record all the activities in their log book.

Boys Brigade members Findlay and Lochlann Bridgeford also handed over cheques to Steve Cross fromCHAS and Alyn Bridgeford of Macmillan Nurses.

A total of £2,603 was raised from their sponsored strecher carry up Bennachie held on Sunday, May 8 and the money was split evenly between the two charities.

30 boys took part in the challenge and managed to carry the stretcher all the way up to the top of Mither Tap.

The boys were joined by the leaders of the company section.

Everyone enjoyed a well deserved barbecue held by the parents and friends association afterwards.
