ELLON’S Old Academy will sway to the soothing music of Michael Bublé next month, as the Academy’s Prom Committee, in conjunction with GlenYthan Badminton Club, come together to entertain the town.
The planned concert will feature singer Jason Porter singing Bublé classics such as ‘Haven’t Met You Yet, ‘Home’ and ‘Cry Me A River’, and comes hard on the heels of GlenYthan’s evening of entertainment by ‘Them Beatles’ at the New Inn last month.
Spokesman for GlenYthan Badminton Club Eddie Middleton told the Times that the concert was sure to be a great evening, and that as well as being entertained, attendees would be raising funds for a range of good, local causes.
“I am sure will be as successful and wonderful as our previous entertainment nights,” he said.
Daughter Olivia Middleton, who is a member of the Ellon Academy Prom Committee, told that Times that as well as raising funds for the badminton club and other deserving local causes, money would also go towards the now-annual Ellon Seniors Prom.
“We plan to go to the Marcliffe in Aberdeen, and have been struggling to raise funds through the traditional methods like packing bags in supermarkets. So, we’ve had to think out of the box - and this seems like a good way to raise money, not only for our prom, but for other good causes in Ellon.”
The prom, though originally an American tradition, has been rapidly adopted by seniors at Ellon Academy, with the celebration now an annual fixture in the school’s social calendar.
The event is strictly ticket only. The New Inn have tickets at reception - Call 720425, or by contacting members of the Ellon Academy Prom Committee or GlenYthan Badminton Club.
