The Middleton Trust is gearing up for the annual 3k and 10k road races this Sunday, writes Ean Mackie
Due to this being the 20th Anniversary of the 3k event, the Trustees have made every effort to invite all the past winners.
So far, two have responded to say they will attend - last year’s winner Lyall Booth, from Newburgh, and the first woman home Cara Bewick, from Ellon. It is hoped that others may make an appearance on the day.
Due to it being a special race, as well as the usual prizes to the overall winner, first lady home, the U-7 to 0-17 category winners, family winners, and the shields for the school team winners, there will be random prizes handed out to various unsuspecting runners courtesy of the numerous sponsors supporting the Trust this year.
There will also be the 10k event at 11am with the possibility of Ron Gauld, of Porthethen, making an appearance to try and win the race for the fourth time in a row and perhaps Lisa Stephen, of Fraserburgh Running Club, will be there attempting to be first lady home for the third consecutive time.
Once again prize money will be on offer as well as medals for the overall and local team winners. Every runner will receive a medal.
While the competitors are pounding round the route, a bouncy castle and barbecue will be available for spectators awaiting their return. They will be run by the Meadows Football U-15 parents in support of their fund-raising for next year’s football trip.
