A former Ellon woman is getting ready to take part in this year’s London Marathon next weekend.
Ashleigh Gray will be running at the event on Sunday, April 28 in aid of the charity Guide Dogs.
Although she now lives in Edinburgh, Ashleigh grew up in Ellon and is a former pupil of Auchterellon Primary School and Ellon Academy.
Ashleigh said: “I hated all kinds of sport and was terrible at PE. Cross country was my least favourite activity.
“I’ve since discovered running, and have run three marathons - Brighton, Chicago and Loch Ness - and run regularly with my dog, Archie, and our canicross club.
“I’m passionate about dogs and how they can change lives, which is why I chose to support Guide Dogs.
“Archie unfortunately won’t be able to run the marathon but he’ll be staying with my parents in Ellon.
“He’s been involved in lots of my training as a brilliant training buddy, he even did his first ever half marathon in February.
“My family still all live in Ellon, and I run the Parkrun whenever I’m back, I’ll be running there this Easter weekend.”
Ashleigh is currently working hard on her fundraising, including holding a bake sale with dog-themed biscuits and cupcakes.
She added: “I am so excited to be running the 2019 London marathon for Guide Dogs.
“Joining all the inspiring runners I watch on tv each year, pounding in the pavements of my old home city, has long been a dream.
“I’m so happy that I can do it while raising money for such an amazing charity that genuinely changes lives.”
