An Ellon woman has been presented with a prestigious award at North East Scotland College.
Nicola Lankford (22) has been studying HND Textiles at NESCol for the past two years.
At the end of her course, she was delighted to take the opportunity to display her work in the College’s Creative Industries End of Year Show – a huge exhibition which takes over a large part of the Aberdeen City Campus.
During the show, a small number of students judged to have produced the best work on display in each subject area are presented with a special award.
Expert judges for the show are drawn from industry and other educational institutions.
This year Elane Colville from The Closet, a vintage boutique on Aberdeen’s Jopp’s Lane, was invited to cast her eyes over the work of the textiles students.
Despite strong competition from her peers, Nicola was presented with the Best Work on the Wall Award for Textiles.
Elane said, “Nicola’s display shows an incredible volume of research and investigation. She has so many interesting themes all weaving together – corsetry, poetry, motor mechanics etc.
“She has drawn inspiration from each source, blending them to create an inspiring and extremely interesting garment in the corset. This is first class work.”
Nicola will be furthering her studies at the Heriot Watt University School of Textiles & Design in Galashiels.
