Euan Bain of the White Horse Inn, Balmedie, is looking forward to the refurbishments which are currently being carried out.

A £250,000 development is currently underway at The White Horse Inn located in Balmedie.

Owner Euan Bain carried out the investment which represents the first major upgrade of the premises in over 30 years.

Mr Bain said that the community have waited long enough for the development.

He said “When we saw the hotel we immediately knew that it had real potential to attract significant additional footfall if someone was willing to invest the time and money that could breathe new life into it.

“While we hope that The White Horse Inn will draw customers from further afield, we also recognise that the community of Balmedie needs and deserves a much improved local venue, and the new jobs that it will create. This is the first time in over three decades that any improvements have been undertaken: the community has waited more than long enough for this.”

The first phase of the programme will see an overhaul of the restaurant and bar which is on track for completion by the end of November.

External improvements will begin next spring, leading on to bedroom upgrades which is expected to be ready before summer.

The company are looking to fill 10 additional positions with kitchen and front of house staff before the restaurant re-opens at the end of the month.

There will be full-time posts as well as permanent positions beyond the festive period.

The development will see the restaurant transformed with a fresh and modern look and the menu will feature local produce and seasonal ingredients,

The restaurant is still open as work is carried out and has been temporarily moved to the function suite,

Bookings are currently being taken for festive meals and parties in December.

Mr Bain added: “People have been asking if we will re-open in time, but come the end of November it will be business as usual and we are taking bookings now.

“We can offer a very vibrant and modern venue – a real alternative to the many multi-national restaurant chains in the city – which is ideal for small gatherings and for large groups.

“With the improvements to the bar area and with our Christmas and New Year party nights, we want to give the community options to remain locally within the area instead of having to travel into the city.”

Mr Bain’s plans also include focusing on growing business created from accommodation. The 20-room hotel aims to attract more guests at the weekend.

He added: “Golf tourism is a growth market for the region and as The White Horse Inn is within a 10 minute drive of the area’s finest golf courses we hope to build on that market.

“We are ideally placed to offer high quality accommodation for golfers and groups of golfers who want to play on courses such as Trump International Golf Links, Murcar and Royal Aberdeen.”
