Burns supper celebration local events
Local schools, businesses and churches from around Formartine and the Garioch held their own events to celebrate Burns Night.
As Burns Night was nearing, P6 and 7 pupils at Strathburn Primary School organised a giant version of the traditional Scottish ceilidh dance, The ‘Orcadian Strip The Willow’ and danced as long as they could to raise funds for Childline.
Burns Night was also acknowledged with the traditional haggis, neeps and tatties added to the school dinner menu. The Mitchells Dairy offered a bacon butty to anyone who could recite a verse by the bard.
Owner Judy Whyte said that one member of staff, game for a laugh, Colin Taylor did the serenading of regular customer, Sandra Summers complete with red, red rose.
Nearly 50 people enjoyed the Auchmacoy Estate’s annual Burns/Harvest supper.
Stuart Presley addressed the haggis, while Bob Taylor was the piper for the event.
The evening also marked 40 years of service for worker, Bill Parley.
Meanwhile the Burns Supper at Kintore Church saw over 90 people attend as John McCall addressed the haggis.
Piper, Jack Fullerton entertained the audience, at the event which was chaired by Graeme Ritchie, with retired drama teacher Laurence Young giving an unforgettable rendition of Tam O Shanter.
