Two north east plumbers have hung up their tools after more than 86 years’ combined service to their employer, Barratt Homes.
William Grant, (61) from Pitmedden, and Jim Welsh, (62) from Inverurie, both joined William Bruce & Sons as apprentice plumbers in the 1970s, shortly before it became Barratt Construction, and have worked with the firm ever since.
Now they are looking forward to spending some hard-earned free time at home with their friends and family.
Jim in particular plans to work on his garden and train his new black Labrador puppy, Harvey, and of course, spend lots of time with his three grandchildren, freya (7) Yasmin (2) and Vinny (4 months).
Jim said: “Construction offers excellent career opportunities and I have certainly enjoyed spending forty years working with fantastic colleagues on a huge variety of sites across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
“But now it’s time to catch up on projects at home, spend some more time on the golf course and get out and about with the grandkids and our new pup!”
Douglas McLeod, Regional Director for Barratt Scotland, said: “From everyone here at Barratt Homes I would like to thank William and Jim for their hard work and commitment to the business over all these years.
“I wish them all the best for the future and a long and happy retirement.”
