A new shop has opened its doors in Ellon, offering its customers the chance to experience the best in baking and handcrafts.
‘Cupcakes and Crafts’ opened for business a week past Monday in the town’s Market Street. Owned by Janet Whitelock and Diane Norrie, the shop sells a range of cupcakes and ‘cupcake bouquets’ made on the premises by Janet, and a range of jewellery hand made at home and on the premises by Diane.
The Ellon Times visited the shop on Friday afternoon. “It’s been absolutely mobbed today”, said Janet, one of this year’s finalists in the Grampian Food Forum innovation awards. “I’ve been baking for the whole day just to try and keep up with custom!”.
“As well as the cupcakes and cupcake bouquets we sell on the premises, we’re also able to deliver”, she added. “In addition to the hand-made jewellery, we offer patchwork quilting kits; arts and crafts materials as well as paintings.
“In time, we’re also hoping that the shop will be somewhere that we can showcase local photographs, as well as arts and crafts from other places.”
Both the vibrant colours and decoration of the cupcake icing and the handmade jewellery succeed in grabbing attention. With two tables, teas and coffees are also available to customers.
“It’s always been something of a dream of mine to be part of a shop like this”, said Janet. “Soon, we hope to be able to offer cupcake decorating classes, as well as classes on jewellery and soap making.”
