Plans for a leading supermarket to move into Ellon have been welcomed by local traders.
Businesses believe the Aldi development in the town centre will bring about an increase in the volume of customers.
The discount chain was given the go-ahead recently to transform the former Haldanes building, which had lain empty for two years.
Tracy Gibbs, chair of Ellon Traders’ Association, who owns sandwich takeaway and coffee bar Delicious, said: “The news that Aldi is coming to Ellon is just brilliant, particularly as they are to be located in a prime position in the town centre.
“Hopefully there will be additional free parking which could mean an influx of visitors who will shop around the area.
“The location is just perfect, and within walking distance of other traders. It has been most frustrating not to have access to such a large parking area.”
The Chocolate Bar proprietor, Simon Merritt, said: “Parking is a major issue in Ellon. A free area for potential customers would be ideal, though I believe the local council could be more helpful and imaginative. Offering short-stay free parking would help us all to attract business.”
