An Ellon charity has benefited from the donation of six apartments thanks to a partnership with award-winning housebuilder Barratt Homes.
The five-star builder and its partners handed over the properties to Ellon Castle Gardens Trust which aims to preserve and develop the gardens and historic monuments of the local castle.
Located at Barratt Homes’ Castlewell development adjacent to the castle gardens, the homes will be rented to local tenants to fund the maintenance of the gardens and provide a sustainable income for the employed gardening staff.
Speaking of the handover, Scott Pettitt, Development Manager at Barratt North Scotland, said: “We are pleased to hand over the ownership of the apartments to Ellon Castle Gardens Trust.
“The gardens are a peaceful and beautiful walled space in the heart of Ellon offering an attractive area for local residents and visitors of the town to enjoy and benefit from.
“The gifting of the apartments will support the upkeep of the gardens which are set to flourish and grow over the coming years.”
The handover of the properties follows Barratt Homes donating the castle gardens land to the organisation last year as part of the original proposal for the Castlewell development that overlooks the ruins.
Situated a short walk from Ellon town centre Castlewell boasts a range of two and three bedroom homes which have proven particularly popular with first time buyers and families.
Prices for remaining properties start at £179,995.
