A new sweetie shop opened on Ellon’s Market Street on Saturday with hundreds of customers turning out to show their support.
Hey Sweetie is owned by Carla Birnie, who decided to set up her own business after being made redundant from her job back in October.
Carla had some extra support on the day thanks to three Oompa Loompas who handed out free tasters and balloons.
Speaking to the Times, Carla said: “I decided I wanted to do something totally new and I tried to do something different here with something for all ages.
“This is my first business and so far it has been great, the local support has been brilliant and I have had lots of help from family and friends.
“Local groups on Facebook have been good at sharing the word about our opening day too.”
A hamper filled with sweets worth £50 was up for grabs on the day, with raffles being sold in aid of The New Arc.
A total of £378 was raised by raffle sales.
Carla added: I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone for their support.”
