Thainstone market round-up

Aberdeen and Northern Marts sold 46 prime cattle at Thainstone on Thursday.

Under 30 Month - Prime bullocks (five) averaged 225.4p (-8.8p) and sold to 238p per kg for a 610kg Limousin cross from Whiteside, Tullynessle and £1,683.70 gross for a 745kg Charolais cross from Nether Mains, Torphins.

Prime heifers (32) averaged 224.3p (-5.4p) and sold to 241p per kg for a 550kg Limousin cross from Whiteside and purchased by West End Butchers, Peterhead and £1,502.80 gross for a 680kg Limousin cross from Aquhorsk, Westhill. Young bulls (one) sold to 167p per kg and £1,586.50 gross for a 950kg Simmental from Coldhome, Keith.

30 to 48 Month - Bullocks (three) averaged 218.6p (-2.4p) and sold to 234p per kg and £1,848.60 gross for a 790kg Charolais cross from Nether Mains. Heifers (five) averaged 217.7p and sold to 229p per kg and £1,637.50 gross for a 715kg Charolais cross from Sandwick House, St Margarets Hope.

Dairy cows (four) averaged 102.6p (n.c) and sold to 117.5p per kg Fresian and £1,005 gross for a 855kg Holstein Fresian from Broadgreens, Banchory-Devenick.

Farrow bulls (six) averaged 135p (+2.8p) and sold to 169.5p per kg and £1,475 gross for a 870kg Limousin cross from Moss Side of Gight, Fyvie.

New season lambs (641) averaged 182p per kg (+5.2p) and sold to 203.3p per kg and £93.50 gross for 46kg Beltex from Rosebrae Croft, St Katherines.

New season SQQ up to 45.5kg (477) averaged 183.5p per kg (+5.8p).

A spokesperson said: “Prime lambs were much sharper on the week, with numbers again scarce.”
