Following his untimely death in 1989, the Alan Middleton Trust was set up to honour his memory and to recognise the contribution and commitment he made to sport in general.
The Trust assists in the development of sporting talent among young people in the Ellon area, providing grants for under-18’s.
To date some £22,000 has been disbursed to young sportsmen and women in the following sports: rugby, athletics, tennis, nordic skiing, horse riding, football, cycling, hockey, swimming, diving, golf, squash, badminton, gymnastics, volleyball and skating.
The trust raise money every year by helping out at local community events and through holding a 10k/3k fun run usually held in late September time.
This year the Middleton Trust Race will be held on Sunday, October 1 and hopefully will be bigger and better than previous years.
This year the Middleton Trust has introduced a 600m childrens race and will also add a 5k run.
This will accounts for all running capabilities and the group would love to see more people take part.
This year the Trust is also supporting the Kayleigh’s Wee Stars by inviting runners to collect sponsors for the cause.
All sponsorship collected for Kayleigh’s Wee Stars will go to the charity which provides financial support for families where there is a child with a terminal illness.
The Trust is also currently looking for sponsorship of this year’s races so please feel free to contact The Middleton Trust via the website (www.middleton-trust.org.uk) or Facebook page (@TheMiddeltonTrust).
