A CHARITY which gifts toys to ill children has thanked a Newburgh student after she and her friends handed over a cheque for thousands of pounds.
Amy Paterson was joined by fellow Robert Gordon University nursing students Sophie White and Rachel Keller, who together organised the ‘Fairy Ceilidh’ on March 24 at the Douglas Hotel in Aberdeen. The event attracted 130 revellers, and raised £2270 - which will fund hundreds of toys for youngsters through the ‘Fairy Box’ charity, which hands out small toys to children who have to spend time in hospital.
Spokesman for The Fairy Box Steve Lillie told the Times that the charity would be putting the money to good use, after receiving the cheque on Friday at Aberdeens’ Children’s Hospital.
“We would usually go out and buy toys up to the value of £10, so this could potentially buy 227 toys for children spending time in hospital,” he said.
Amy added that the ceilidh had taken a lot of organising, but that she and her friends were pleased to have taken part.
“It was a lot of hard work, but it’s definitely been worth it,” she said.
