Organisers of Ellon’s Christmas Lights Switch On event have hailed the day as a “resounding success”.
The community council drew up an exciting programme of entertainment for Saturday’s extravaganza which was enjoyed by large crowds.
Eager children queued up to visit Santa in his grotto in Neil Ross Square, while people enjoyed the variety of stalls on offer.
The day was packed full of music, from local groups the Ythan Fiddlers, Jack and Stewart and Buchan Community Radio.
Local people and visitors gathered around the town to watch the colourful parade, before the Christmas tree lights were switched on by Auchterellon pupils. Mhari Cruickshanks and Callum Turnbull.
A spectacular firework display ended the evening on a high.
Community council Chairperson Sandy McDougall said: “The success of the day was down to the many hours of hard work and dedication of members and the array of around 100 volunteers who make the event happen year after year.”
Community council treasurer, Mark Grant added: “The day had been a resounding success, attracting thousands of visitors to the town centre.
“Over 400 children had visited Santa in his grotto in Neil Ross Square and the crowds had been entertained by local entertainers including the Ythan Fiddlers, Jack & Stewart and Buchan Community Radio”.
Early indications are that the community council has managed to raise enough funds to allow them to start planning next year’s event.
