Owners of a popular Udny cafe are celebrating the opening of their second location in Ellon town centre.
Husband and wife team Jonny and Ali Aspden of The Coffee Apothecary opened the doors to their new cafe three weeks ago.
The cafe is located in The Square and was previously the charity shop Helping Hands.
Jonny and Ali opened their first Coffee Apothecary cafe in Udny four years ago.
The pair were approached by BrewDog with an offer to bring their unique cafe to Ellon, an offer they couldn’t refuse.
Speaking to the Times Ali said: “They asked if we would consider opening in Ellon and we were delighted to say yes.
“We had been thinking about what we could do in Udny to expand but then this came up and here we are.
“It has been a good decision for us and everything has been going really well so far.
“We have been busy since we opened and we are humbled by the warm welcome that we have received in the town, and our customers are giving us nice reviews online too which is great.”
The Ellon cafe has a similar design as its Udny predecessor, which Ali believes helps to make it “a home away from home”.
Both of their cafes aim to have a relaxing atmosphere as Ali explained: “We wanted to try and create somewhere that we ourselves would like to go and sit and enjoy a coffee or a glass of wine, unlike a pub where people stand at a bar and feel the need to be drinking.”
The Coffee Apothecary serves fresh food which is all made on site using as much local and seasonal produce as possible.
Customers can sit in and choose from a number of speciality coffees and delicious dishes, or those on the go can also pop in and purchase a takeaway coffee.
Looking to the future, Jonny and Ali have applied for an alcohol licence and hope that they will be able to extend their opening hours into the evening.
As for opening a third cafe Ali said: “There are no plans just now but never say never.”
