Meallmore Ltd had initially been contracted by NHS Grampian, and then the Aberdeenshire Health and Social Care Partnership (AHSCP), to deliver the beds in Ellon since 1997.
Angie Wood, Partnership Manager for Central Aberdeenshire, said: “Following extensive discussions with our colleagues at the Auchmacoy Unit, we have decided to end the current contract that the partnership has with Meallmore Ltd.
“The services currently provided at Auchmacoy will continue to be delivered in Ellon at a new intermediate care unit which will open within our care home, Ythanvale in June.
“The care and service that Auchmacoy has delivered to the people of Ellon has been excellent, however with the integration of health and social care services in the area, now is a good time to look at a slightly different service delivery model.”
To save the eight nursing care beds the company will invest further to provide tailored personal and nursing care for the elderly.
The unit will close temporarily from June for refurbishment for several months while work is carried out to reconfigure the facilities.
Gerry Hennessey, managing director for Meallmore added: “We have been very proud of the high standard of service delivered to the local people at the Auchmacoy Unit over the years and are disappointed that the contract is coming to an end.
“We are an established provider and understand the needs of the local area so rather than close these eight places we will retain our excellent staff team and relaunch the unit to further improve the services offered at Auchtercrag.”
